Events Update

7th July 2020

Some people are suffering the effects of Covid 19 in the most unthinkably heart breaking ways, thankfully theatre is ‘only’ experiencing financial loss.

Here at the Stables we have, for all intents and purposes, closed until Spring 2021 but between now and then we plan to start reopening the theatre in line with Government Guidelines, with outside events, socially distanced & streamed performances, reduced audiences, before once again playing to ‘full houses’.

The Stables is lucky to have such a dedicated and generous group of Volunteers, Members and Patrons and we wanted to say a particular thank you to everyone for their continued support, this will help to secure the future of the Arts and Theatre in Hastings.

Keep well and we look forward to seeing you back at the Stables very soon.

Stables Council

18th June 2020

We look forward to seeing you all again as soon as possible!

Everyone at the Stables hopes you are keeping well and wanted to let you know that during these challenging times we are doing everything to make our return as safe and as exciting as possible.

As you will already be aware we estimate the earliest full reopening of the theatre may not be until Spring 2021, but we have been working.

Our Box office Manager and Membership Secretary have now contacted all but a handful of ticket holders and we want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has donated or accepted vouchers in exchange for current tickets, it keeps the theatre in a very stable (sorry) position. The Council  will be discussing memberships next meeting.

There is still great uncertainty around the duration of social distancing requirements so as government guidelines allow we are planning to re-open in three stages.

Stage One – Outside – socially distanced performances.

Stage Two – Stage based – socially distanced performances – with no or reduced audience and live streaming.

Stage Three – full scale productions – with capacity audience.

We are currently working with health and safety representatives and industry professionals planning the management and safety for the entire theatre, this is extremely complicated.

So between now and the theatre re-opening fully there are going to be a variety of ‘one off’ events. Marketing, ticketing, productions, format will all look very different and we are taking this as an opportunity to move forward using the building as a community based theatre.

With all best wishes and our thanks for your support

28th May 2020

Dear All

Firstly we hope this email finds you all well and safe.At our monthly Council meeting on Tuesday evening it was decided with great sadness, that due to current circumstances, we will be keeping the Stables Theatre closed for an extended period. Until we have further clarification from the government we are unsure how long this is going to be, but we estimate the earliest full reopening may not be until Spring 2021.

From 1st June 2020 ticket holders will be contacted, we will be offering a voucher – to be used at the theatre anytime, a refund or the opportunity to donate the value of your ticket to the theatre and production you were coming to see. We are very much hoping that all the productions planned for this season will go ahead at some point. The Council is also looking at a policy for recognising the loss of membership during this period. We really appreciate your patience and understanding during these unprecedented times.

During our ‘dark’ time and within government guidelines we will be undertaking essential  maintenance as well as looking at ways we can use the building and theatre for ‘one off’ events. So as the government lifts lockdown we may be able to mount such events as workshops, poetry evenings, open the bar, talks, lectures and small scale productions with a reduced audience. Again this can only be achieved within government guidelines and social distancing.

We very much look forward to welcoming you back to the Stables, please watch our website and Facebook pages for up to date information.
Keep well

15th March 2020 – During this period of uncertainty the Stables Theatre needs to balance safeguarding the health and wellbeing of our volunteers & patrons with the presence of Theatre and Arts within the community and all in line with the guidelines imposed from Government.

The situation is changing daily and at present we do not know the extent to which public gatherings are going to be curtailed, we need to make sensible, rationally timed decisions.

The theatre is responding practically with the introduction of hand sanitizers and notices throughout the building. There may be times in the next few months when the box office is closed for face to face bookings. Online booking is always open or a phone message can be left.

Please do not feel disrespected if during this period we ask you not to attend the theatre if you feel at all unwell or leave the theatre if you display obvious symptoms. Our priority is to protect.

For our volunteers who need to self-isolate, please keep In touch with friends from the theatre, we at the theatre are here to support each other in whatever way we can.
