On Tuesday October 13th 2026 we will be holding a pitch evening where you can pitch the show you would like to direct.

We will be looking for directors who have a clear vision of how they would stage the show artistically and practically within our venue, but otherwise there are no limitations on the shows you can pitch – we thrive on a diverse range of ideas, themes, styles and forms of theatre.

We will then assign you a 15 min slot for our Pitch Evening where you can privately discuss your ideas in more depth with us and we will ask you questions about your pitch.

People new to the Stables Theatre or directing may be asked to shadow a director, or direct a one act play before we can accept your pitch, so that we can get to know you, and you can get to know us and the theatre.

The Stables Theatre and Arts Centre is a volunteer-led community venue in the heart of Hastings Old Town. We house a 126-seat theatre, 40-seat studio, rehearsal spaces and an art gallery. If you’d like to visit the theatre before submitting your pitch, please feel free to pop in Mon-Sat between 10am and 1pm, or contact the PT Chair below to arrange a visit.

In-house productions are produced by the Producing Team (PT) – a group consisting of 9 members who have a variety of backgrounds, knowledge and experience within professional and community theatre.
