‘Dear Lord – I had to save the children…’
We are looking for 5 ADULT and 4 CHILD ACTORS, for this exciting new production. Performing Wednesday to Saturday, 23rd July to 2nd August 2025

Please note – the roles of GIDDENS and MRS GROSE are substantial, those characters being on stage for most of the play. So, the actors playing them will need to be confident in learning accurately a large amount of lines.
UNCLE – Well-to-do, middle-aged, upper-class English gentleman.
GIDDENS – Young man. Son of a country parson. Engaged as a tutor to Flora and Miles
MRS GROSE – Middle-aged housekeeper and former maid.
PETER QUINT – Young man. Apparition. A non-speaking, but essential role. An ability to project fear and menace through expression and physicality.
MISS JESSEL – Young woman. Apparition. A non-speaking, but essential role. An ability to project anguish and menace through expression and physicality.
Auditions for FLORA and MILES on Sunday 9th February between 10.30 and 1pm. Please email – totsauditions@gmail.com
for a time-slot.
We will cast 2 actors to play FLORA and 2 actors to play MILES – they will perform the show on alternate evenings.
NOTE FOR PARENTS – parental support will, of course, be essential supporting your child through the rehearsal process and performances, and helping them with line learning between rehearsals.
Stables Theatre safeguarding guidelines will be strictly observed, with qualified chaperones present at all the times parents are unable to be present.
The Turn of the Screw is a ghost story – and we hope it will deliver some moments of chill for the audience. But our job will be to scare the audience and not the cast. Rehearsals will be a safe and fun environment where we will all play our part in a game of make-believe to tell a scary story.
So, if you think your young actor would like to play one of these roles, then please ask for a copy of the full script, which we will send for your consideration.
Both roles have a substantial, but manageable amount of lines to learn. So, the actors will need to be confident in accurately learning lines.
FLORA – Orphaned niece. Playing age of around 10 years old (can be older playing younger) A bright and imaginative girl. She enjoys to dance – it’s not necessary to have had formal dance training, but a confidence to dance would be welcome.
MILES – Orphaned nephew. Playing age of around 12 years old (can be older playing younger) A bright and imaginative boy. Has the ability to appear angelic. At times, has the confidence and entitlement of an upper-class child of the times.
