AUDITION NOTICE-AFTER MISS JULIE
by Patrick Marber
Auditions 29th September @ Stables Theatre 1-5pm
For performance at the Stables theatre 7th – 15th February 2025 @ 7.30pm
I’m delighted to announce that I will be directing After Miss Julie by Patrick Marber for the Stables Theatre which will rehearse beginning mid October through January and performing at the Stables Feb 7-15th 2025.
After Miss Julie is award winning director/playwright Patrick Marber’s brilliant re-imagining and update of Miss Julie, August Strindberg’s famous classic.
Marber has set his version of the play in the kitchen of a grand country house in 1945 on the night of the Labour landslide which heralded a sea change in British post war society. A savage psychological power game with deadly consequences is being played out below stairs between Julie the privileged aristocrat and her ambitious working class manservant John witnessed by the latter’s fiancé Christine who harbours her own secret agenda in this erotic menage a trois.
This is a fantastic acting opportunity for three bold, brave performers interested in exploring an amazing play that still has the power to shock today. It’s not for the faint hearted and Downton Abbey it ain’t but I can promise that exploring Marber’s games of love and death will be both creatively challenging and rewarding. The production will aim to be highly physically expressive and it includes disturbing scenes of raw emotion and a highly sexual nature. The rehearsal process will include detailed text work alongside physical movement work and improvisation. So if all that hasn’t yet put you off I would love to meet with you!
Auditions will be held at The Stables Theatre on Sunday September 29th from 1-5pm
Miss Julie – late 20’s to early 30’s playing age
John – mid to late 20’s
Christine – mid 30’s to early 40’s
Copies of the play will be available to borrow from the Stables reception after 9th September.
