Ten Minute Tales

Hastings Writers’ Group, founded in 1947, is one of the oldest established writers’ groups in the country. The group – which included literary legend Catherine Cookson as a founder member – had as its original aim to ‘encourage all writers resident in the Hastings area to develop their skills and gain maximum benefit from the support of their fellow members’. This aim continues to the present day.

More information about the group can be found athttps://hastingswriters.co.uk

HWG is delighted to work with writer, performer and director Cindy Oswin, who has given most generously of her time to support the group’s members in both writing theirTen Minute Tales,  and taking playwrights and cast on the journey which culminates in staging the four prize winners at this year’s Hastings Theatre Festival.

Cindy’s background is in theatre as an actor, director and writer. She has worked with many theatre companies including Paines Plough, Lumiere and Son, Rational Theatre, Scarlet Theatre, Leicester Haymarket, Derby Playhouse, and her own company, Salt Theatre.

For Shakespeare’s Globe, in collaboration with Mark Rylance, Cindy Oswin wrote and directed the royal opening event: The Triumph of Hope and The Masque of Heaven and Earth.  She has also written short pieces performed at Shakespeare’s Globe and the 42 Street Theatre, New York.

This year, HWG is supporting the Hollington Youth Centre, whose youth work provision in Hastings and the surrounding areas is a lifeline for young people navigating adolescence while facing the challenges of high deprivation. Any proceeds made by HWG from this performance will form part of that support.
