Summer Tour 2021

An extraordinary collection of stories that has been selling-out shows for the past eight years is now on its final leg. This is a last chance to see real-life testimonies from butches, masculine-presenting females, trans-men and gender rebels based in the UK, USA, Caribbean, Ireland, Australia and more, gathered by writer Libro Levi Bridgeman and directed by Julie McNamara.

Originally a collaboration between Hotpencil Press, Vital Xposure and The Drakes,The Butch Monologues first toured in 2015. Since then it has be staged at venued and festivals worldwide, including the UK, Ireland and New York Abron Arts,La Mama, Outburst,Shout!, Homotopia, L Fest, Just Like a Woman. The show has been presented 3 times at WOW on London’s Southbank. Following a tour to Australia in 2019 at Midsumma Festival Theatreworks and Mardi Gras Seymour Centre the company brings the show back to the UK for a final live performance and to online audiences across the globe.

Libro Levi Bridgeman, Writer

European writer based in London. Libro Levi has written for the theatre and BBC Radio 4. Has a Ph.D from UEA in Creative Writing where they were awarded the HSC Scholarship.

Published short stories include: Gregory (Brand Magazine), Letter To My Future Lover (F, M and Other, Knight Errant Press).

Libro Levi co-runs hotpencil press with Serge Nicholson publications include: There Is No Word For It (2011), The Butch Monologues (2017), and Letter To My Little Queer Self (2021).

Libro Levi is currently working on a novel. They teach Creative Writing in Guildhall Drama School and Imperial College and have taught in 5 UK prisons.

Julie (Mack) McNamara, Director

Julie(Mack) has been working with Libro Bridgeman for eight years shaping, editing and re-framing The Butch Monologues and directing the presentations of this collection in all its iterations since it was first developed with the Drakes. Mack is an award winning documentary, theatre maker and playwright, widely produced on national and international stages.

Founder of Vital Xposure, a disability-led touring theatre company working with stories that expose the unpalatable truths of social injustice, she also founded and co-directed the London Disability Film Festival alongside Caglar Kimyoncu (filmpro). Recent work includes White Pariahs: Quiet Rebels with Hassan Mahamdallie.
