Workshop-Introduction To Playwriting
Session one: Foundations: Idea, Character, Setting
Aim: To introduce key building blocks of a play and help each participant discover and develop an idea they can develop over the course.
Session two: Conflict, Wants, Obstacles
Aim: To deepen characters and generate conflict that can drive a play forward.
Session three: Scenes – structure and shape
Aim: To understand what makes a scene work and begin drafting scenes from their play.
Session four: Dialogue and Subtext
Aim: To explore the crafting of authentic, theatrical dialogue that reveals character and subtext.
Session five: Structure and Plot
Aim: To support participants shape their story across a whole play, not just individual scenes.
Session six: Reflecting and Sharing
Aim: To consolidate work completed during the course, share extracts, and give participants a sense of how to keep developing their play beyond the course.
