HALF CUT – CAROLINE MACEY
CAROLINE MACEY uses extensive drawing from life to feed into her printmaking practise. She does not plan her work but lets the images evolve. Each print is as much about the journey as the destination and her dedication to drawing provides the expertise that inspires her art.
She pushes at the boundaries of conventional lino cutting. Using Japanese vinyl and sankakuto woodcutting tools enables her to express the detail of a wood cut to the scale of a metre and above.
She works directly on the vinyl and the drawing grows into and informs the printed image. In this way she chooses to work as a painter paints, transforming her ideas into images directly on the developing surface.
In 2017 she was made an Associate member of the Royal Society of Printmakers (ARE).
