Ascension

………….tragic story for 21st-century audiences.” – Broadway Baby

Written and performed by Dan Hazelwood with Conor Mainwaring.

Directed by Max Lindsay.

Following two successful runs at the Edinburgh Fringe festival and sold out shows at the Greenwich Theatre in London, Ascension begins its UK tour at the Stables Theatre in Hastings for a limited two-day run this November.

Listed in The Stage’s Best Shows at EdFringe2025, this bold, rule-breaking play has been adorned with 4 and 5 star reviews.

300 years ago, a diary was discovered on remote Ascension Island – the only record of a Dutch castaway, marooned as punishment for sodomy. With sharp new writing, bursts of laughter, and joyous moments of hope, Ascension tells a timeless story of queer resilience and survival.

From the spice warehouses of Holland to the Dutch colonies of Indonesia and into realms beyond map and memory, Ascension travels thousands of miles in one short hour, yet lingers long after.

There will be a Q&A after first night.
