Tricksy Spirits presents:
WAX
A new play by Michael Punter
Directed by Jane Richardson
Performed by Duncan Brown and Jo Flay
In August 1949, John George Haigh was found guilty of murdering six people and destroying their bodies in drums of sulphuric acid. He was sentenced to hang. Shortly afterwards, Madame Tussaud’s commissioned a waxwork of Haigh for its Chamber of Horrors.
WAX presents a series of meetings between Haigh and the young woman sent to take his likeness: Anna Gifford. Across 5 meetings, the simple process of representation becomes a tense game of psychological manipulation, as a serial-killer attempts to control not only how he is portrayed, but how posterity will remember him…
WAX is a new play about one of Britain’s most notorious killers. It’s a dark, tense drama about how murderers are made, and how they attempt to remake the world around them. If you like Netflix’s Mindhunter, you’ll love Wax!
