STABLES THEATRE PRODUCTION PHOTOGRAPHS
Peter Mould started taking photographs at The Stables in September 2002. Since then he had photographed nearly every Stables production. If acting in a play or unavailable Zo Biba Leonard deputises for him.
He has photographed wonderful plays with splendid actors, costumes, props, sets, scenery and lighting, (sound too, but I haven’t found a way of photographing that yet!). Many thanks to all those involved, all the actors, technical and backstage staff. Not forgetting all those who work front of house to keep The Stables Theatre running smoothly. I have endeavoured to produce photographs which capture the essence and excitement of a particular play and also provide a faithful record of each individual production.
Nikon
For those interested in the technical aspects he had graduated through a series of digital cameras starting with the Nikon D100, progressing through to the Nikon Z9 with an 27-70mm zoom lens, together with a Nikon Z7II with a 70-200mm zoom lens. Both are mirrorless cameras which allows him to operate with a silent shutter. Because of the variable lighting condition encountered during a stage production he sets the camera to shoot at 1/160sec and have an automatic setting that adjusts the ISO accordingly. ISO measures the sensitivity of the image sensor. In effect the ISO sets the camera’s sensitivity to light, sometimes going as high as 16,000ISO (most point and shoot cameras operate at 200-400ISO). He usually shoot at an aperture of 12.8 or 15.6. Digital cameras are superb for stage photography as they can cope with the vagaries of stage lighting and also operate quickly under very low light conditions without creating too much “noise” in the picture. Photographs are processed on a Mac Pro computer using Adobe software called Lightroom.
If at any time you wish to obtain copies of his photographs or make any enquires about photography contact him through his website www.stagesnaps.com also on his website there is a comprehensive archive of Stables play photographs.
