“Stereotypes, confinement and the fear of flying” –  The Cagebirds

An allegorical play exploring the themes of oppression and female stereotypes. It reveals the pitching of women against each other, the glass cage that they exist in and how these attitudes clip the wings of those that would otherwise be free.  – The Cagebirds

An allegorical and absurdist play by David Campton in which we encounter the effect of female stereotyping through the eyes of six characters. They are women. They are birds. They are prisoners of the Mistress. Self-absorbed and insular they exist in isolation and are reduced to caricatures to be feared and ridiculed. Their imprisonment has restricted them and divided them and left them without power. The status quo is questioned and disrupted by the new addition of “The Wild One” but will that be enough to help them break free? – The Cagebirds

White Lead – What does it mean to be a woman in art? According to The Tate, 78 percent of the galleries in London represent more men than women, while only 5 per cent represent an equal number of male and female artists.

White Lead is a short play exploring the expectations and responsibilities of being an artist and a woman. It was first performed at Hampstead Theatre, London, in November 2016, as part of the Women Centre Stage festival, produced by Sphinx Theatre, demonstrating the range, depth and richness of women’s writing for the stage.

In this play, power and vulnerability collide, as three women share their innermost thoughts over dinner … that no-one actually eats!- White Lead

“I’ve settled it for myself so flattery and criticism go down the same drain.” Georgia O’Keeffe – White Lead
