Carabiners

Written by Glynn Carter – The winner of The Stables Play Writing Competition 2024.

Angie is given a devastating diagnosis that she must have a hysterectomy at a relatively young age.   Paul takes her 11-year old son from a previous relationship to a style treetop adventure, where Paul nearly dies.

The devastating medical news forces both to look at their marriage and how to move forward. Paul desperately wants to remain anchored to Angie whilst she is determined to cut him loose to be able to become a father. Through a series of events they are forced to examine their own feelings for one another and how to move forward whether this will be together or apart.

Carabiners is not a play about a woman who has a hysterectomy, or man who faced his own mortality. It is about love, grief, and how to shift in your expectations of a marriage when things do not go the way that you had planned.

Approximate run time – 90 minutes + interval.

Triggers and Age Guidance – Play explores the themes of infertility and miscarriage.
