Carabiners
by Glyn Carter
Winner of The Stables’ Play Writing Contest 2024.
Paul and Angie always wanted a child together. One fateful day, while Paul is out on an adventure with Angie’s son, he is brought face to face with his own mortality. Meanwhile, she is given the distressing news that she cannot have more children. If Paul is ever to have a child of his own… it won’t be with his wife.
Carabiners is about love, grief, and curveballs. It is a Stoppardian exploration of a marriage torn and stretched to breaking point. What pulls us apart, what keeps us together, and where are we safe? Paul and Angie are flawed but recognisable, funny and sexy one minute, hard and cutting the next.
Written by local playwright Glyn Carter, Carabiners was the winner of The Stables’ Play Writing contest last year, with entries from all around the world.
Approximate run time – 90 minutes + interval.
Triggers and Age Guidance – contains themes of infertility.
