Art Gallery Recital

Richart van Zyl, age 18, began his fascination with the violin at age of one. At age 10 he started playing in the National Children’s Orchestra (NCO) of Great Britain.

He has won numerous awards, including top prizes at a number of festivals and competitions, most recently Young Instrumentalist of the Year at the Hastings Music Festival.

Richart is also an avid composer and his compositions have been performed at the Royal College of Music, where he studied violin, composition, conducting and piano at the Junior department. He also recently performed one of his compositions in a chamber recital with members of the Hastings Philharmonic Orchestra. Richart will also be appearing at the Stables Theatre in A Christmas Carol.

Helen Ridout studied at Chethams School of Music and later specialised in collaborative piano at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, where she won prizes and was a Cripplegate Scholar. Her diverse musical career has spanned playing for ballet companies and ensembles including The Fairer Sax and Marianne Olyver Gypsy Orchestra.

Now based in East Sussex more recent projects include: Repetiteur for Push – a community opera by Howard Moody commissioned by the Battle Festival, pianist for Barefoot Opera Cabaret Fusion and BarefootBallads, pianist for Mozart in Russia at the Kino-Teatr, director/pianist for Peter and the Wolf Christmas concert also at the Kino-Teatr and MD for Paris Snow a new musical premiered in March 2017.

She initiated a series of Coffee Concerts at the Kino Teatr in St. Leonards-on-Sea including collaborations with James Newby, Wissam Boustany, Louise Winter, Sally Pendlebury, Robert Birchall and Chiara Vinci.

Future plans include the development of the Opera Buffa project and musical collaborations both locally in East Sussex, London, and further afield.
