Annie Brassey

Written and directed by Heather Alexander

To mark the centenary of the Suffragette movement and the Representation of the People Act, we celebrate Annie Brassey, a remarkable woman with a thirst for adventure who travelled the world on a Victorian steam clipper. A Voyage in the Sunbeam was the title of her journal of these adventures and they made her famous.

But who was the very private woman behind the public image? Puppetry, drama, film and music combine to tell this inspirational story and her triumphs over prejudice and personal tragedy.

Direct from the Edinburgh Fringe, sell-out performances at Hastings Museum’s Durbar Hall and the Brighton Fringe, ‘Annie Brassey’ is back in Hastings for a limited run, here at The Stables Theatre.
